I born on 1985 in a small town denominated the city of “sun and steel” (Sogamoso, Colombia). I started my academic training at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana where I got my undergraduate degree in industrial microbiology and my master degree in environmental biotechnology (Magna cum laude). During my master training, I performed different metagenomic surveys of Andean forest soils, hot springs and mangroves. I did my PhD in the cluster of Microbial Ecology at University of Groningen –RUG (The Netherlands), under supervision of Professor Dr. Jan Dirk van Elsas. In this group, I founded an independent research line called “plant biomass-degrading microbial consortia”. In 2017, I worked as Postdoc in the Salles Lab at RUG, where I did my first steps in the field of synthetic microbial ecology. Since 2018, I am assistant professor in the Biological Sciences Department at Universidad de los Andes (Bogota, Colombia). I love microbes, enzymes, soccer and dogs! I am disposed to continuously learn and share my knowledge. The discipline, love and passion for my work are my most important "skills".
Laura Diaz-Garcia MSc
Industrial Microbiologist from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana and Magister in Sciences from Universidad de los Andes. My research interests are focused in the eco-enzymological understanding of lignocellulolytic microbial communities, and studies related with applied microbial ecology and valorization of agricultural residues by using meta-omic approaches.
Carlos Andres Diaz (Master Student)
Biological Engineer from National University of Colombia. Currently, I am master student at Universidad de los Andes. I have experience with thermodynamic analyses applied to biological processes. I would like to use this knowledge, couple to mathematical modeling, rational design and meta-omic approaches, in order to improve bioprocesses carried out by microbial communities.
Carlos Daniel Castañeda (Master Student)
Biologist with experience on agricultural and environmental biotechnology. I am master student in Biological Science at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. My research project is focused on genomic analysis of Bacillus sp. and Talaromyces sp. in order to unveil they lignocellulolytic machinery.
